What
Mike and Kelly Sandman along with their next door neighbors, (Justin Rooney and Allison Collins) and their permaculture guild, are meeting to work on some permaculture projects, have a potluck, and hang out. The permaculture guild is made up of graduates of a recent permaculture design course here in Columbus. We meet monthly to collaborate on someone's project and then eat and catch up. Below is an outline of what we hope to accomplish.
The Project
Building an herb spiral and pond. There are three parts to this:
- Herb Spiral(s) Construction
- Pond Excavation/creation
- Swale/path extension
Prep Tasks for all three projects
- Remove soil from projected herb spiral spot to a tarp on driveway
- Move pile of conifer brush to back of house
- Transplant plants to be saved to pots - daisies - vinca - blue flowers
- Clear groundcover and/or mulch area for herb spiral
- Haul pavers to front from back (dolly)
Construction tasks
Herb Spiral(s)
- Lay out boundary of spiral(s)
- Continue per instructions (online or josh's...)
Pond
- Establish and lay out boundaries
- Dig overall shape of pond 8" deep
- Locate hole for trash can (deep section)
- Dig hole for trash can (dirt goes on pile for interior of herb spiral)
- Lay down carpet/plastic sandwich
- Line edges with stone
- Fill!
- Plant in and around
Swale/Pathway
- Establish and lay out boundary
- Check/correct existing swale levelness
- Continue swale to sidewalk (dirt goes on topsoil pile)

- Dirt (from pond enough for spirals?)
- Cardboard and paper
- Herbs
- 6 mil plastic
- Carpet
- Trash can and lid
