General Design Goals

Specific Design Goals

  • Add/make the bathroom more private so when people are over we don't have to get dressed to pee, etc.
  • Composting capabilities in the kitchen
  • create cold room in kitchen for fruits and vegetables (for less dependency on fridge)
  • Create entry space and increase privacy in living spaces for front door without closing off sight lines
  • Create more efficient storage for coats and cold weather clothing. it would be especially nice if when someone was in the coat closet, someone else could still get to the other side of the house...
  • Create place to do puzzles and projects (that isn't also the dining table)
  • Create seat in master suite to facilitate getting dressed
  • Create shoe-shine space and storage for shoe shine stuff
  • Create space for bed so head isn't against a window (so i have something more solid and warmer to lean on)
  • Dedicated bill paying space
  • Have bigger shower - comfy for two
  • Have cat door for boys for access in and out without our help
  • Have cookbook holder in kitchen (so i stop splashing my cookbooks so much)
  • Have exterior doors that are easy to open and close
  • Have laundry in bedroom or really close to it
  • instant water heater?
  • Make floors more feet-friendly; do away with slipper country (cold floors) as much as possible
  • Provide a media room that's acoustically private to store noisy tv, and all computer stuff, especially peripherals and all of their pesky wires.
  • Provide better storage for clothes: hanging clothes, shoes, off-season clothing, etc.
  • Provide place for cat food and water that isn't underfoot
  • Super insulate house
  • use pocket doors as much as possible
  • Waste and recycling bins in kitchen
  • Create a library for our general books
  • Make fireplace area cozier and less like a hallway to the kitchen
  • Redo plumbing to get rid of slow leaks and generally clean up system
  • rewire in a way that makes sense
  • create a "space of one's own" for each of us
  • utilize heat from appliances in winter and vent heat from appliances in summer (fridge, dehumidifier, washer/dryer, etc)
  • get rid of bottlenecks in house: eg. old coat closet in hallway, old L-shaped kitchen, etc.
